THE 10-SERIES

The hallmark of Rolfing® Structural Integration is a standardized “recipe” known as the Ten-Series; the goal of which is to systematically balance and optimize both the structure (shape) and function (movement) of the entire body over the course of ten Rolfing sessions.

Each session focuses on freeing restrictions or holdings trapped in a particular region of the body. I maintain a holistic view of the client’s entire system during each session, thus ensuring the transformational process evolves in a comfortable and harmonious way.

SESSIONS 1 - 3

Called the "sleeve” sessions, sessions 1-3 strive to loosen and balance surface layers of connective tissue.

Specifically, the first session is devoted to enhancing the quality of breath with work on the arms, ribcage and diaphragm. I also start to address the upper leg, hamstrings, neck and spine.

The second session helps give the body a stable foundation by balancing the foot and muscles of the lower leg.

The third session typically involves a “side view” for an understanding of how the head, shoulder girdle, and hips are being influenced by gravity and are positionally related to one another when standing. The discoveries made during this session will inform how we move forward.

Sessions 4 - 7

Sessions 4-7 are referred to as "core" sessions and address the body from the bottom of the pelvis to the top of the head. Core stabilization also includes working on the deep tissue of the legs.

Session four specifically addresses what’s known as “the inside line”: the connection between the inside arch of the foot, the lower and upper leg and the pelvic floor.

The fifth and sixth sessions strive to achieve balance between the front and back body. In session five, I work from the front of your body to address both surface and deep abdominal muscles in relation to the curves of the back. In session six, we lengthen the back-body and focus on cultivating support, movement and integration between the back of the legs, pelvis and lower back.

The seventh session attends to the shoulder girdle, neck and head. Work on the jaw is often incorporated into this session.

Sessions 8 - 10

"Integration" is emphasized throughout the remaining three sessions. It is in these sessions where we insure that the structural changes we have been able to achieve are fully incorporated in a way that feels natural and smooth. Integration protocol is unique to each individual.

My goal is that by the end of the Rolfing Ten Series, you will feel more aligned and experience what it is to enjoy a body whose flexibility and stability are balanced. I also hope to achieve significant, long-term reduction to any chronic tension and pain. Subsequent “tune-up” and “exploration” sessions can be utilized to address your specific areas of interest and facilitate a deeper understanding of your body’s uniqueness.
